for the ball diff, personnally we don't lub it, and we let him unlock... but i think on carpet we need to lock it.

If you want your balldiff to work long time, you need to do a running-in-procedure with wheels lifted on a car-stand:

"running-in-procedure" for ball-differentials:
Lubricate the axial-bearing with black grease (be careful, those balls are very small!), and lubricate the diff itself with balldiffgrease and reassamble your diff.
1)At first with very loose screwed diff.
a) Hold one rear wheel and start with slow speed and slowly (about 30 seconds overall time) go to higher throttle.
   b) then same procedure with the other wheel.
2) tighten the screw about 1/2 - 3/4 turn and repeat procedure 1)a) and b)
3) repeat 2)
Done!

Then your differential should run very smooth for a long time.

When maintaining your differential, you need to wash everything (balls, plates, axial bearing, and the "pulley") with brakecleaner or cleaning-alcohol.
Then sand the diff-plates at first with 600 sand paper, then polish them with 1000+ sand paper.
Wash the dust of them, lubricate the balls, reassable the diff, and do the "running-in-procedure" again.

Cheers, Harun

I'm thinking I may go with the alloy ball diff or gear diff, I will just run the piss out of this one until it breaks.

I want the black alloy front and rear control arms as well as the alloy hubs and probably upgrade to a different differential. We'll see how deep my wallet is after the holidays.
